The Hague Tour 3rd April 2003
09.00-13.00 hrs
The Royal Painting Cabinet Mauritshuis is housed in one of Holland's
most outstanding classicist buildings. Its location next to the
Binnenhof on the Hofvijver pond, its intimate character and the
exceptional quality of its collection makes the Mauritshuis a favorite
destination for its many visitors. The Mauritshuis is mostly celebrated
for its world famous collection of Dutch masterpieces from the 17th
century. Paintings by Rembrandt, Vermeer, Jan Steen, Frans Hals,
Potter, Ruisdael and numerous other masters from the Golden Age
form the core of the collection, which also features paintings from
the Flemish 16th and 17th century, and works by Rubens, Van Dijck
and Jordeans.
Although Madurodam has recently undergone extensive enlargements
it is still the smallest town on earth. You will see medieval city
quarters, modern architecture, railways and floating vessels, a
highway and an airport, a barrel-organ and a brass band. This city
is very much alive in all corners.
Delft Tour 4th April 2003
09.00-13.00 hrs
Delft is a historical city with an intimate atmosphere.
Canals, bridges, courtyards, the Market with the New
Church and the City hall bring back reminiscences
of days long past.
The first visit in Delft will be to the "Porceleyne Fles".
Here you will get a demonstration of the production
process and the decoration of the famous Delft pottery.
In the exhibition room you will find an excellent collection
on display. The shop offers a wide variety of large and
small vases and plates for sale.
After this visit you will go to the centre of Delft where you will
get a combined ticket for a choice visit to one or more of three
places of interest.
- New Church: late Gothic building dating from the 15th century.
In the choir is the magnificent tomb of William the Silent.
- The Prinsenhof: originally the Monastery of St Agatha became
the Residence of the Princes of Orange. In this palace Prince
William of Orange (William the Silent) was assassinated in 1584.
This picturesque complex is now in use as a museum.
- Museum Lambert van Meerten: a nice selection of Delft pottery,
one of the largest collections of tiles, old furniture and paintings
in a 19th century canal mansion.
