Mission
Statement
I take the opportunity to renew my
candidature for the next board because I believe in
the achievement of "one voice, one vision"
for palliative care in Europe.
The four past years I learned a lot as board member
and therefore I say thank you to the presidents, the
head office, all the colleagues of the board and all
the colleagues in Belgium.
For the next four years I wish to continue:
*
to promote the opportunities of empowerment through
networking at an European level;
* to bring the mission, vision, aims and realisations
of the EAPC network into Belgium;
* to stand for the interests and views of the Belgian
palliative care practioners, researchers and educators
in a collaboration with colleagues in Europe;
* to improve the communication with the Belgian members
through the three Federations for palliative care: FPCF,
FWSP and FBSP and with the public who is concerned about
palliative care;
* to contribute to varied working groups, workshops
during congresses;
* to stimulate projects and to continue my participation
on the task force Palliative stage opportunity (EPSO).
In Belgium I am the general co-ordinator of Palliatieve
Hulpverlening Antwerpen (PHA) v.z.w. one of the networks
for palliative care. I have the daily responsibility
to deliver qualified support to all persons who have
needs in and questions about palliative care in the
region of Antwerp. Not only patients and there families
at home also all the involved caregivers. To achieve
this I can count on an interdisciplinary team of experts
in palliative care, volunteers and the empowerment of
the collaboration with a lot of caregivers and organisations
in the region of Antwerp. Since 10 years I have been
professionally involved or I was witness in the foundation
of specialist palliative care services in this region
of Belgium. I am an active member of the Federatie Palliatieve
Zorg Vlaanderen (FPCF). As president of the steering
committee for education and training I can use my expertise
coming from the education service of PHA and also as
collaborator and co-author of the EAPC guidelines for
nursing education.
I hold a master degree in 1992 at the university of
Leuven and followed a course in palliative care in Oxford
with Robert Twycross. I’m able to converse in
three languages what offers me the advantage in the
networking of the EAPC. I like challenges to enable
me to develop and learn new ways of thinking. Renewing
my candidature is such a challenge. I’m honoured
to have the full support of the EAPC board, my organisation
and the Federation of palliative care FPCF.
